The Six Nations of the Grand River Council mandated the Six Nations Gaming Commission to explore the expansion of gaming at Six Nations of the Grand River. As part of this exploration, the Commission felt it was of foremost importance to hear directly from the community — and contracted a local consulting firm to complete the engagement.
Community engagement ran from May to December 2025, through in-person and virtual events anchored by a focused three-question survey. The voices of 1,488 community members were captured, of whom 90% live at Six Nations of the Grand River.
At in-person and virtual events, community members also identified the following areas for further discussion and exploration:
what type of gaming and what that gaming would ‘look like’ needed to be shared
who has the authority to approve, and who is responsible for transparent and accountable decision-making moving forward
collective revenue distribution vs. per capita payment
social issues such as impacts to/in vulnerable populations, alcohol, addictions, and community safety.
how is any gaming expansion going to be controlled so that the community and community members stay safe, who and how it is going to be enforced, and further the implications of private enterprise
